Jealous Guy
![]()
After reading Vanessa Grigoriadas' over 5,000 word exegesis on the workings of New York gossip, thinking I should write something about it -- after all, it really has a bit of everything; Richard Johnson mythomaking, descriptions of the subtle pull and release of PR power politics and how they converge (and in Grove’s case, don’t converge) with the NY gossip sheets, and in the middle, Spiegalman as foil and fall guy (the Timberlake “pop note” item was even his fault!) -- I walked over to my CD player, needing some background music. Roxy Music is always good. I sat back down at my computer. Their version of Lennon’s “Jealous Guy” comes on: it’s perfect. Spiegalman might be sitting in his “Forest Hills apartment,” still drunk from last night, firing off emails about the NY mag article to anyone who would read them, as he listens and sings along to the very same song (he seems more like a Lennon man, though)!
Oh Richard,
I was dreamin’ of the past/ and my heart was beating fast/ I began to lose control, I began to lose control/I didn’t mean to hurt you…. I didn’t mean to hurt you/ I’m just a jealous guy/ I was feeling insecure/ You might not love me anymore… I’m just a jealous guy.
Dahling,
I loved your blog until I fell asleep for lack of juicy bits. Get thee to a nunnery! Or, better still, get thee to London, where there's always something memorable to be seen. They even have the odd celeb (odd being the operative word) flitting hither and thither. Just take your umbrella and you'll be fine darling.
Ciao,
The Ziglet.
